Summary

Professor Garth Nicholson, Director of the Department of Molecular Genetics and Medicine Laboratory at The University of Sydney collaborated with Professor Sue Serjeantson at the John Curtin School of Medical Research in the early 1990s. He was keen to determine whether the ataxia seen in Aborigines was Machado-Joseph disease.

Details

In 2010, the Machado Joseph Foundation awarded a research grant to the Anzac Institute (University of Sydney) to conduct research into a potential treatment for Machado Joseph Disease using Zebrafish. Professor Garth Nicholson oversees this project. He is also currently a member of the Research Advisory Committee for the Machado Joseph Foundation.
